We did not run clean evaluations specifically for difficulty annotations. Instead, our easy, medium, hard, and extreme ratings are based on how much inference compute was necessary to solve each statement. Concretely, we considered (1) how many best-of-k runs were needed to obtain a successful verified translation, and (2) how many different evaluation setups we had to try before hitting these numbers.
