This is fine for the kernel, because as a kernel developer you can track such deadlocks down relatively easily, similarly to how you would with any other locking issues in regular user space code. The problem appears when a system is introduced that allows for random (within reason) C code to be executed at arbitrary points during the kernel’s regular execution.
